Some of the most common questions we receive are about our scrubs. Most people want to know the basics: what they're good for and how to use them. Let's start at the beginning. Scrubs are made for exfoliation, which is the process of removing dead skin cells from the skin using a granular substance.
Why is exfoliation important?Making a habit of exfoliating both our face and body promotes healthier, smoother skin. Our skin naturally sheds every thirty days or so, but a lot of that skin doesn't come away. Using a gentle, nourishing scrub helps dead skin come off while deep-cleaning pores at the same time. It's important to note that body scrubs should not be used on the face, as they are often formulated with coarse ingredients.
How often should I exfoliate?Over-exfoliation can cause irritation. That's why it's always important to use gentle formulas on both the face and body. Frequency of use looks different for everybody, so our main piece of advice is: listen to your skin. We usually recommend exfoliating once or twice a week, however, if you find that you're oilier you may need to add a day.
How does my skin benefit from exfoliation?• Cleansed pores and less acne. Dead skin can seal our pores, trapping oil, dirt, and bacteria inside, which causes inflammation and breakouts.
• Skincare absorbs better. Exfoliated, clean skin allows moisturizers, serums, and oils to soak in more effectively.
• Even skin tone. Routine exfoliation smooths skin's overall texture and promotes even pigment.
• Improved circulation. Exfoliating encourages stimulation of oxygen-rich blood cells to nourish the skin from the inside out.
Are there different types of exfoliants?
Sugar Soufflés are a lightweight, whipped blend of fine sugar and rice bran oil. While moisturizing, this formula doesn't leave your skin feeling oily. Body Scrubs feature a more rich formula, made with deeply-moisturizing shea butter and salt. The texture is almost lotion-like and leaves the skin feeling nourished. Our Face Scrubs are made with pumice for gentle exfoliation. We offer four options for four different skin types.
