The Hype About Hemp
As hemp oil grows in popularity and usage, so does misinformation. We're here to set the record straight on hemp and how it can be naturally beneficial to your everyday skincare routine.
What is hemp oil?
Hemp oil is an essential oil extracted from the seeds of the hemp plant. Hemp is often confused for medicinal marijuana, but contains less than 0.03% of THC per food grade regulation. Hemp seeds and, therefore, hemp oil contain a multitude of natural vitamins and fatty acids that are not only beneficial to ones diet, but also to the body and skin.
What does it do?
Omega fatty acids (specifically omega 3 and omega 6) and gamma linoleic acids are
intrinsically nourishing and soothing. These polyunsaturated fats help enhance the skin's natural oil barrier and promote hydration. Linoleic acid fights inflammation and oxidation. Hemp oil, when applied topically, can help prevent breakouts, soothe eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, and ordinary dry, itchy skin. It's also ultra-moisturizing!
Does it have other benefits?
Hemp seeds are
naturally high in magnesium and our bodies depend on magnesium for a multitude of functions and processes. As we enter adulthood the magnesium in our bodies depletes rapidly. This is due to a variety of factors such as magnesium-deficient foods and stress! Some deficiency symptoms include headaches, poor sleep cycles, and increased irritation or anxiety. Adding magnesium and nutrient-rich fats back into the skin and body may reduce these symptoms.
